DZOFilm Arles vs Vespid 35mm | Is T1.4 vs T2.1 Worth the Upgrade?

Right after I bought a full set of DZOFilm Vespid’s, I went to NAB this year and visited the DZOFilm booth to see they just released a new set of lenses called the Arles Primes.

Literally the worst timing that could have happened for me.

I have a whole video about why I chose the Vespids, but I was immediately curious how the Arles compared to the Vespids.

I have a 35mm Arles right now, and I’m waiting on the 50 and 100 to come in before making a full comparison video, but here are some test shots comparing the 35mm Vespid to the Arles in a number of different lighting conditions.

These are all shot in S-log 3, with only a rec 709 conversion applied. No grading at all.

I want to see if I need the Arles, or if I just want the Arles lenses.

After looking at those results, I can definitely see a difference between the Vespids and the Arles - but is it enough for me to sell my 7-lens vespid kit for a set of 4 or 5 Arles lenses? Do I use my vespids and save up for a set of Arles lenses? I’m going to wait until the 50 and 100mm get here before I make any final decisions.

What you you guys do? I need some help here - let me know what you would do in the comments on YouTube.

Check back for my full Arles video, but in the meantime, here is the video why I chose the Vespids over the irix cine and Nisi Athenas.
