Expectations vs Reality: Making A Short Film
One of my long-term goals is to make a feature-length film, but I mostly shoot product videos and corporate-type stuff. So, instead of buying more gear, I invested that money into finally making a narrative short film where I would be the director. And writer. And cinematographer. And anything else I couldn’t find help to do.
I’ve always wanted to make a short film with real actors, speaking lines on camera, at multiple locations. But my excuses and insecurities were keeping these productions actually happening.
Realizing this, I asked a few friends if they were available in 3 weeks, they all responded yes, and without finalizing the script, or having actors, I booked the first airbnb that allowed us to film and locked in the date. Now I had to get to work.
I saved up $1500, and asked a lot of favors. I full sent the entire budget on a location, actors, crew and food. The budget was small, and it went fast.
